Productivity Tips When Summer Weather Is Calling Your Name

The weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and we wish we could spend most of our time doing summer activities. Unfortunately, the beautiful weather can be off-putting when you’re stuck in your office all day. It’s easy to fall behind on your work when the sun is shining, and you’re ready to be outside. So how can you stay focused and productive during the workday? We have some tips!

Refresh your goals (and your desk)

Reconnecting with what matters most to you will help keep your motivation high through the summer months. So take some time to review your goals and ask yourself some of these questions:

How do my goals align with my values? My beliefs? My deepest desires? How do I want to live my life? Does anything need to shift? Are your small goals feeding into your big goals?

By asking yourself these questions, you can see if you need to make any changes and where you need to do so. It helps you to remember how your daily life informs your future, reminds you why you are going after what you are, and gives you a new sense of purpose as you move forward. Refreshing your goals keeps you motivated as it gets nicer outside. It’s a nice reminder as to why you do what you do!

While you’re at it, also take the time to refresh your desk! Like you change your closet from winter clothes to summer clothes, change out your desk decor and reorganize. Also, dig into your documents, your to-dos, and your overall work—where can you declutter to help you focus on what matters most? You’d be surprised how a desk refresh can revitalize your mood!

Prepare your weeks in advance

With your newfound motivation, get into the habit of preparing your weeks in advance. Instead of taking on weekly/daily tasks as they come, take some time each weekend to prepare for what’s ahead. Take a moment to look at your calendar and map out your top priority items, the things you need to get started on, and the optional to-dos that can wait.

Furthermore, don’t just plan out your work schedule but also map out your personal life. That way, you can make room for those fun summer activities. You’ll feel much less stressed once all these items have been planned out—and with less stress comes more energy!

Get out of the office

When you get outside, the fresh air and sunshine can make a huge difference in your mood. So take advantage of the summer weather while you can, and take the time to step out of your office. Fresh air is good for your brain. It even helps with memory and learning and makes us more creative.

Try incorporating getting outside into your schedule every day by planning an early-morning walk or run. If mornings aren’t your thing, then try to get outside in the middle of the afternoon to break up your day.

Take breaks

If you’re struggling to get through the workday, it’s time to consider a mid-day treat for yourself. Summer is an excellent time of year to include mini-breaks throughout your day.

One way to break up your day is by creating scheduled breaks throughout the workday. For example, try planning 10 or 20 minutes between your tasks. Maybe you’ll go outside for some fresh air, walk to your favorite coffee shop, pick some flowers, or grab lunch and sit outside.

It can be easy to get overwhelmed with larger projects or tasks so you should consider dividing them into digestible pieces and reward yourself by stepping out for a break as you complete each one!
